Reggie Shiu Development of the Year

The HICAP Reggie Shiu Development of the Year Award recognizes a newly built, redeveloped, or repositioned (after significant product renovations and/or enhancements) hotel opened, reopened, or completed their repositioning in Asia Pacific between 1 September 2025 and 31 August 2026. Development nominations are reviewed according to specific ranking criteria by the HICAP Reggie Shiu Development of the Year Award Committee to determine the three finalists, with a particular emphasis on expectations for premium Return on Investment to be generated. The finalist information is then reviewed and voted on by delegates of HICAP to determine the winner, whom will be announced at HICAP.

Nomination forms are due by Monday, 31 August 2026.

Ranking Criteria

Nominations are reviewed according to the following criteria, so ideally each question on this form should be answered as comprehensively as possible. Where specifics are considered confidential, non-specific, but still descriptive/illustrative responses will be deemed useful.

  • Budget: Was the project completed on budget?

  • Complexity: Were there notable aspects of the project planning and completion that posed significant challenges to be overcome?

  • Financing: Was there some novel or otherwise noteworthy aspects to the project financing arrangements?

  • Innovative Design: Were there creative/unique design elements implemented?

  • Market Sense: Is the completed project suited for its market environment and target customers?

  • Performance: How has the initial performance been relative to the market and its intended positioning?

  • Pioneering: Was the project developed in a new market or pioneering destination?

  • Quality: Is the completed project noteworthy in the quality of its finished product (relative to its intended positioning)

  • ROI: Is the expected return on investment attractive?

  • Sense of Place: Is the completed project suited and incorporating/reflective of the local culture

  • ESG Initiatives: Were there any identifiable ESG efforts/initiatives implemented?

  • Timeliness: Was the project completed on time?
